Rail Service Begins To Monterey Sand
Monterey Sand, LLC, shipped its first load of sand via rail on Friday, May 16, 2008. On this momentous Friday, the Nashville and Eastern Rail Road (NERR) rounded the bend with three locomotives pulling ten sand cars and a caboose. Less than two hours later, the train left with nearly 1,000 tons of sand, and headed down the mountain to LoJac’s block plant in Lebanon.
This addition to the Monterey Sand operation will allow LoJac to compete in the Lebanon and Nashville markets with concrete, asphalt, and mason sand. The sand will be unloaded and stock-piled at the block plant in Lebanon and the asphalt plant in Hermitage. Both of these locations will serve as re-sale yards and provide sand for many mason customers as well as our own plants.
